Oh, no …

Hells no

The vast amount of knowledge I have gained as a parent has surprised me and continues to deliver awe on a daily basis. I have learned to admit when I am wrong and how to apologize, that I must pick my battles and can’t solve everything, and how to take better care of myself because there is someone else who depends on me. And to anyone who believes I am terribly irresponsible today, the beer, the cussing and wearing my shoes on the furniture, should have met me ten years ago, I was so much more FUN!

The latest lesson from my seven year-old son, Azul, was in Linguistics. I have been a huge advocate for the Dual Language program at school and completely support his multi-lingual pursuits at all levels.

His question was, “Do you know how to say, ‘no’ in (insert various language here)?”

My answer to each language he presented was shockingly, “No.”

He impressively went through five different languages correctly and then finally came to his last language asking, “Do you know how to say, ‘no’ in Gangster?”

I didn’t immediately answer, and a million thoughts of my young life living in Albuquerque’s South Valley flashed before me. After a short pause I said … wait for it, “No.”

If you are unfamiliar with how to say “no” in Gangster, consider yourself schooled.

The Marriage Of The Iron Golem

Marriage

Minecraft Villager and Iron Golem.

If you are familiar with The Barber of Seville, you know some will go to great lengths to be with the one they love, others just cut the engagement short before it even starts, with a razor sharp answer.

If you are familiar with Minecraft, you know this is an Iron Golem proposing to a Villager, as seen through the eyes of a seven year-old.

Minion Egg-citement On Easter!

pic 1

There are so many egg coloring kits to choose from these days, but why not get creative this Easter by making these fun and easy eggs.

What you need:

Hard boiled eggs (see http://carmelinaandlexi.com/2016/03/22/boiled-egg-perfection/)

Yellow and Blue dye

Adhesive wiggle eyes

Non-toxic washable markers

Step 1 – Follow the manufacturer’s instruction on preparing the egg dye, which usually includes using a combination of water and vinegar.

pic 3

Step 2 – Dye the top half of each egg yellow by submerging half the egg in the dye. Let the egg dry completely before moving on to the next step.

pic 4

Step 3 – After the first half is dry, flip the egg and repeat Step 2 with the blue dye.

pic 5

Step 4 – Now decide if you are going to have a one eyed or two eyed Minion and apply the adhesive eyes accordingly.

Step 5 – Add any additional embellishments (goggles, mouths, etc.) with the markers.

Although it is time-consuming to wait for the eggs to dry, this is a fun project and your kids will love being able to design their very own Minion!
